Delhi Assembly Election 2025: Congress Promises 400 Units Free Electricity If Voted To Power
Delhi Congress President Devendra Yadav on Tuesday announced that his party will provide free electricity up to 400 units per month in Delhi if it manages to win the upcoming assembly elections in the union territory.
Devendra Yadav also stated that Congress would implement stringent measures to prevent power distribution companies (DISCOMs) from overcharging consumers with inflated electricity bills.
Currently, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Delhi government offers free electricity up to 200 units monthly. The free electricity scheme, including free DTC bus passes for women and free healthcare facilities at ”Mohalla Clinics” have been immensely popular among the Delhi voters which helped AAP to win the last assembly elections with a thumping majority.
Delhi Assembly
Speaking during the Delhi Nyay Yatra in the Kirari assembly segment, the Congress leader claimed that his party fulfils its election promises wherever it governs, contrasting it with AAP’s performance in Delhi. He accused AAP chief and former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal of making excuses for his administrative failure to implement promised free schemes, blaming others, including the lieutenant governor, for his shortcomings.
Congress’ Devendra Yadav criticised Arvind Kejriwal’s unfulfilled pledge to transform Delhi into a city akin to Paris or London, highlighting that garbage management remains a significant issue. He recalled Kejriwal’s assurance before the 2022 Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections to clear the city’s three major garbage mounds, a promise that remains unmet.
