Kolar Bandh Today: City-Wide Shutdown On Jan 3 Over Amit Shah’s Comments On Ambedkar

Kolar Bandh: various progressive groups came together to strongly condemn Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s controversial comments on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

The streets of Kolar buzzed with demonstrators early in the day, expressing their unwavering dissent. The bandh gained momentum following a motorcycle rally held the previous day, where participants urged shopkeepers and residents to actively support the protest. Rally organizers called for a complete halt of vehicular movement, including autos and cars, as a powerful show of solidarity.

The protest saw its peak when activists gathered outside the KSRTC depot in the city, attempting to disrupt the usual flow by blocking roads. Their demonstration escalated as they tried igniting tires in front of the depot, a move promptly thwarted by police intervention. This led to the withdrawal of buses back to the depot, leaving the bus station empty and passengers stranded without any means of public transportation.

Amidst these events, the central bone of contention remained Amit Shah’s disparaging remarks about Ambedkar in Parliament, with protesters clamoring for his immediate resignation from his ministerial position.

The local authorities, including the district administration and police force, have issued stern warnings against the forceful imposition of the bandh, emphasizing the right to protest without infringing on the public’s freedom of movement. As a measure of caution, a significant police presence has been established throughout Kolar to maintain order and ensure public safety. The intense reaction to Amit Shah’s statements about Ambedkar has led to a palpable tension in the city, as the community stands united in their demand for respect towards Ambedkar’s legacy.
