Ranveer Allahbadia Controversy: Parliamentary Panel Writes To I&B Ministry, Seeks Tougher Rules For Social Media

A parliamentary committee led by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has written to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry regarding social media influencer Ranveer Allahbadia’s controversial remarks, ANI reported.

The panel has sought the ministry’s response by February 17 on potential amendments to existing laws to prevent similar incidents on social media and OTT platforms. The controversy erupted after several members of the parliamentary committee raised concerns over Allahbadia’s comments and called for stricter action.

They also stated the need for stronger regulations to curb such incidents in the future. BJD MP Sasmit Patra stated that lawmakers from various parties had highlighted the issue and stressed the importance of stringent measures to prevent recurrence. BJP MPs Anil Baluni, VD Sharma, Lahar Singh Siroya, and Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi were among those who raised the matter, according to PTI sources.

Assam Police Issues Fresh Summons

Meanwhile, Assam Police has issued fresh summons to YouTubers Ashish Chanchlani, Ranveer Allahbadia, and others in connection with a case related to promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit discussions on a publicly accessible YouTube show. The case, registered with the Guwahati Crime Branch on February 10, follows a complaint by Guwahati resident Alok Boruah. The complaint names multiple influencers, including Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, Apoorva Makhija, Ranveer Allahbadia, and Samay Raina, alleging that their discussions on the YouTube show India’s Got Latent were vulgar and harmed public decency and morality.
