Silence Sparks Setback: AAP Removes Raghav Chadha as Rajya Sabha Deputy Leader
Party reshuffle elevates Ashok Kumar Mittal, raising questions over internal dynamics and Chadha’s recent silence
New Delhi: In a significant political reshuffle, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has removed its Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha from the post of Deputy Leader in the Upper House, marking a major shift within the party’s parliamentary structure.
Replacing him is Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Chancellor of Lovely Professional University and a party MP, who will now serve as the new Deputy Leader in the Rajya Sabha. A formal communication regarding this change has already been sent to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat.
Speculation surrounding Chadha’s role had been growing for some time, especially as he maintained a noticeable silence on key issues involving the party and its top leadership in recent weeks. This lack of public engagement had fueled discussions about possible internal differences.
Chadha’s removal is being seen as a major development within AAP. Notably, even after key party leaders received relief in the excise policy case, Chadha neither met party chief Arvind Kejriwal nor reacted publicly on social media—further intensifying speculation about a rift within the party.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mittal, considered an experienced figure with a strong background in the education sector, was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Punjab in 2022. In previous parliamentary sessions, he has been vocal on issues related to agriculture and education.
It now remains to be seen whether Mittal’s calm and analytical approach will help strengthen AAP’s position and effectively drive its agenda in the Upper House.
