Former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on Friday expressed profound grief over the passing of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, calling him her “friend, philosopher, and guide.” Gandhi described Singh as a leader of unparalleled wisdom, humility, and nobility, whose demise has left an irreplaceable void in India’s national and political landscape.
“In Dr. Manmohan Singh’s passing, we have lost a leader who was the epitome of wisdom, nobility, and humility, who served our country with all his heart and mind. A luminous and beloved guiding light for the Congress party, his compassion and vision transformed and empowered the lives of millions of Indians,” Sonia Gandhi said in a heartfelt statement during a Congress Working Committee meeting convened to pay tribute to the late leader.

Gandhi highlighted Singh’s respect across the political spectrum and among global leaders, calling him a statesman of immense wisdom and stature. “Respected and admired by leaders and scholars all over the world, he was hailed as a statesman of immense wisdom and stature. Dr. Manmohan Singh brought brilliance and distinction to every high office that he held. And he brought pride and honour to India,” she added.

For Sonia Gandhi, Singh’s demise was not only a political loss but also a personal one. “He was my friend, philosopher, and guide. Gentle in his manner but resolute in his deeply held convictions, he stood firm for social justice, secularism, and democratic values,” she said. Gandhi lauded Singh’s knowledge, sagacity, and unwavering integrity, which left a lasting impact on everyone who interacted with him.

Remembering Singh’s legacy, Gandhi praised his commitment to India’s progress, noting that his economic reforms of 1991 laid the foundation for the country’s rapid development. “We in the Congress Party, and the people of India, will forever be proud and grateful for his immeasurable contributions to India’s progress and development,” she remarked.
