Trump calls UK’s Prince William ‘good man’ at Notre-Dame reopening
US-President elect Donald Trump on Saturday met Prince William on the sidelines of thereopening ceremony of the Notre Damecathedral in Paris, the world-famous 12th-century landmark that had been burned in a massive fire in 2019.
The photos that came out from the meeting showed the two leaders shaking hands and indulging in a discussion.Prince William was in Paris to represent Britain in the reopening ceremony of the Notre Dame cathedral which was devastated by a fire five years ago.
After shaking hands at the ceremony, the two leaders also met afterwards, with the president-elect describing the prince as a “good man” doing a “fantastic job”. The two leaders also discussed the UK-US relationship during the talks.Trump
The prince asked Trump if he had warmed up since attending the ceremony in the cathedral and he replied he had and that it was “beautiful”.
William said “we can warm our toes up after the cathedral” to which Trump smiled and responded, “right, you’re right”. This was the first time the two leaders met since Trump was elected as US President last month. The last time they met was during his state visit to the UK in 2019.The Prince of Wales also held meetings with other world leaders, including US First Lady Jill Biden.
The reopening ceremony of ‘Notre Dame De Paris’ this weekend is the first of several events planned to celebrate the cathedral’s five-year restoration, with a televised and choreographed service.Trump
On Sunday, Notre Dame’s great organ will be heard in public for the first time since the blaze as an inaugural mass is held featuring special rites to consecrate the main altar. More than 150 countries donated 846 million euros to fund the restoration of the cathedral, according to the public body in charge of its restoration.
