Both Kohli and Rohit deserved proper send-off, BCCI must look into it: Anil Kumble

Legendary India spinner Anil Kumble feels star batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma deserved a proper farewell as they retire from Test cricket. Both Rohit and Kohli have called their time on Tests within a space of six days, leaving a massive hole in the India’s squad. Their decision comes ahead of the five-match Test tour in England, beginning from June 20.
Recently, Kumble shared his thoughts on theretirement of the batting stalwartsand said that the duo deserved a proper farewell as they move away from the format. He also urged the authorities to take note of it and give them a proper send off.
“Right now, Rohit Sharma a few days ago and then Virat Kohli. I think all three of them deserved a proper send off on the field. I strongly believe people who matter need to address that. I know it is a social media age, yes the fans want to be there, there would have been plenty of fans and have a roaring send off,” said Kumble on ESPNCricinfo.
Furthermore, Kumble also expressed qualms for the upcoming England tour as Rohit and Kohli left a big gaping hole in the team.
“Rohit has retired, he had been captain for a while and Virat is probably the most accomplished captain for India and you would have wanted one of the guys to be around. England is going to be tough, it is a five-Test… I think it must have come as a surprise to the selectors as well. I’m sure the selectors would have looked to pursue him,” he added.
The upcoming tour of England will also mark the beginning of the World Test Championship cycle 2025-27. With a new Test captain set to take the leadership role, India will embark on a new chapter in their Test historywithout the senior players. It remains to be seen how quickly the youngsters adapt to the rigours of Test cricket to take it to the same heights as their previous generations.
