Election-Time Shocker in Akola: Cash Haul on Two Wheels Triggers Major Probe

Akola: During heightened security for the Akola Municipal Corporation elections, Khadan Police carried out a dramatic seizure, confiscating ₹50 lakh in cash from a young man riding a moped. The incident unfolded during routine vehicle checks at a police barricade, where officers stopped a two-wheeler for inspection. What they discovered next left the entire team stunned.
As the police searched the rider, they found a bag (jhola) in his possession. When the bag was opened, officers were shocked to find ₹50 lakh in cash, which was immediately seized.
The action was carried out under the guidance of SP Archit Chandak, ASP, and Sub-Divisional Police Officer (City) Sudarshan Patil, and led by Inspector Manoj Kedare. Police had earlier received a tip-off about a youth wearing a red T-shirt and black cap, allegedly transporting a large sum of election-related money on a moped.
Acting on the intelligence, police set up a checkpoint on Nishu Nursery Road and intercepted the suspect vehicle. During questioning, the rider identified himself as 27-year-old Yash Anand Lalwani, a resident of Sindhi Camp Kachchi Khole, Akola.
In the presence of two independent witnesses, a thorough search of the moped was conducted. Officers recovered a black bag and a white cloth bag stored in the vehicle’s dicky, both containing the cash amounting to ₹50 lakh. Along with the cash, police also seized a moped valued at approximately ₹70,000 and an old mobile phone worth around ₹10,000.
Police officials stated that the seized cash has been taken into custody as part of an election-related investigation, and inquiries are underway to determine its source and intended use. The administration made it clear that no illegal activity will be tolerated during the election period.
Authorities have appealed to the public to immediately report any suspicious activity, ensuring that the electoral process remains safe, transparent, and fair.
