“Don’t Disturb Cheta”: Suryakumar Yadav Shares a Fun Moment with Sanju Samson at Thiruvananthapuram Airport

Thiruvananthapuram: The Indian cricket team has arrived in Thiruvananthapuram ahead of the fifth and final T20 match against New Zealand, scheduled for Saturday. At the airport, a playful moment between captain Suryakumar Yadav and wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson was captured on camera and shared on BCCI’s X (formerly Twitter) handle, quickly going viral.
As the team made their way to the bus, chants of Samson’s name echoed through the airport, as he hails from Kerala. Walking alongside Samson, Suryakumar jokingly said, “Cheta ko disturb mat karo” (Don’t disturb Cheta) while motioning Samson to continue walking. Samson, known by the nickname “Cheta” in the team, smiled at the interaction.
In the video, Yadav also asks Samson how it feels to be back in the “God’s Own Country”, to which Samson replied that it’s always great to be here, but this time it feels special. The video has been widely shared and appreciated by fans on social media.
Samson’s Form Under Pressure
Sanju Samson was selected as India’s wicketkeeper and opener for T20 World Cup 2026 and the ongoing New Zealand series, replacing Shubman Gill. However, he has struggled in the series, scoring 10, 6, 0, and 24 in the first four matches. Despite a promising start in the fourth T20, he failed to convert it into a match-winning performance.
With Thiruvananthapuram being his home ground, Samson is likely to get one more chance in the fifth T20. Since India has already won the series, this could be his final opportunity to impress. Failure to score in this match could jeopardize his place in India’s World Cup playing XI.
