Israel Launches Fresh Strikes in Southern Lebanon Despite Ceasefire

Jerusalem: Despite an ongoing ceasefire, the Israel Defense Forces has confirmed carrying out fresh strikes in southern Lebanon, targeting areas it described as potential threats south of the so-called “Yellow Line,” according to Al Jazeera.

A Beirut-based reporter said Israeli forces conducted two airstrikes on Sunday, alongside continued artillery shelling and machine-gun fire across several villages. In one strike, a group of Hezbollah fighters was targeted near the Yellow Line. Israeli officials claimed the group was approaching the area but had not crossed the boundary.

The second strike reportedly targeted an individual near a tunnel entrance located south of the Yellow Line. Israeli forces stated that the target was hit and the tunnel entrance was destroyed. A military spokesperson maintained that these actions did not violate the ceasefire, arguing they were carried out in self-defense.

According to the report, the ceasefire framework—released by the U.S. State Department—allows Israel to act in self-defense and continue holding positions in several Lebanese villages.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem criticized the arrangement, calling it an insult to Lebanon. He warned that while diplomatic efforts are ongoing, the group would not tolerate continued Israeli strikes.
