Maharashtra Civic Elections 2026: Mohan Bhagwat, Sachin Tendulkar and Other Prominent Figures Cast Their Votes

Voting Underway Across 29 Municipal Corporations, Including BMC

Mumbai: Voting has begun across 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), from 7:30 AM on Thursday. Citizens are arriving at polling booths to cast their votes, with several prominent personalities setting an example by voting early in the day.

RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat voted at a polling station in Nagpur. Speaking to the media, he emphasized the importance of participating in elections as a democratic duty:
“Elections are an essential part of our democratic system, and it is also the duty of every citizen to vote. One should consider candidates thoughtfully and vote for the one who appears most capable and in the public interest. That is why I came early to cast my vote.”

Union Minister Piyush Goyal cast his vote with his family at a Mumbai polling station. He praised the dedication of senior citizens, noting an elderly couple over 80 years old who came to vote, calling them role models for all Mumbai residents. He also highlighted the enthusiasm of differently-abled citizens and elders in fulfilling their civic duties.

Union Minister of State Murlidhar Mohol voted with his family at Ward No. 31 in Pune, stating that citizens are observing the central government’s initiatives and asserting his belief that the Pune mayor will be from BJP.

Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar also participated in the civic elections early Thursday morning at a Mumbai polling booth. Tendulkar urged all citizens to exercise their right to vote, emphasizing the significance of each person’s voice in shaping democracy.

Other notable voters included former Union Minister and BJP leader Prakash JavadekarShiv Sena leader Shaina NC, and BJP state president Ravindra Chavan, who voted with his family in Dombivli.

Former Governor Ram Naik cast his vote at Mumbai’s Pahadi School, explaining his habit of voting early:
“Voting early allows me, as a party leader, to interact with polling staff and officials to understand how the process is proceeding and identify any issues.”

The 2026 Maharashtra civic elections are being held for 2,869 seats across 29 municipal corporations, including 227 seats in BMC. Voting will continue until 5:30 PM.
