Virat Kohli Fans Enraged On Social Media, Attack The Wrong Phillips After His Dismissal Vs NZ In Champions Trophy

Fans of the Indian Cricket Team were certainly not happy after the star batter, Virat Kohli, was dismissed early on in the Champions Trophy 2025 clash against New Zealand in Dubai on Sunday.

Kohli fell for just 11 runs in 14 balls to Matt Henry thanks to a brilliant catch by Glenn Phillips at the backward point region in the first innings. The Indian batters struggled for the most part, with the top three batters being dismissed after scoring just 30 runs in 6.4 overs.

The 36-year-old was coming in after a brilliant unbeaten century against Pakistan, and many hoped the iconic batter would deliver once again, particularly in his 300th match in one-day internationals. But it wasn’t meant to be for Kohli as the Indian batters banked on the middle-order to score most of their runs.

Fans on social media platforms like Instagram expressed their frustrations by targeting the wrong Philips in the comment sections. Several comments can be seen in the official account of Philips, the electronics brand.

“Kohli ko out kyon kiya,” one fan asked.

Another fan even looked to clarify in the comment section by sharing that this was not the official account of the New Zealand international star.

Even in a post hailing Kohli’s knock against Pakistan, fans did not mince their words in the comments.

Despite the top-order collapse, Shreyas Iyer, coming in at number four, managed to stabilise the innings with a handy half-century. But he was unable to convert to a triple-figure score as he was eventually dismissed by Will O’Rourke in the 37th over.

Now, the onus is on the likes of Hardik Pandya to stick till the end and ensure that India can post a fighting total. Both teams will be looking to take the win and secure their spot at the top of the group.

Australia and South Africa are the semifinalists in Group B, while India and New Zealand are the ones going through from Group A.

The winner of the ongoing fixture would go up against Australia in the semi-final stages, and both teams would want to take on the Aussies, who have not looked their very best in this tournament.
