Watch: PM Modi’s candid moments with wildlife at Vantara

From doing a high five with a lion to feeding leopard cubs, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Gujarat’s Vantara included some heartwarming moments with resident animals.

Vantara in Jamnagar is a sprawling wildlife rescue, rehabilitation, and conservation centre housing over 1.5 lakh rescued, endangered, and threatened animals from more than 2,000 species. Watch here.

During his visit last weekend, the PM played with and fed Asiatic Lion cubs, a rare Clouded Leopard cub, and a White Lion cub that was born at Vantara after its mother’s rescue. He also learned about the centre’s Caracal breeding programme, crucial for the preservation of this increasingly rare species. He was also present while an Asiatic Lion was undergoing an MRI and a leopard got life-saving surgery after a highway accident.

He interacted with creatures such as Golden Tigers, Snow Leopards, and four Snow Tiger brothers rescued from a circus. He also shared moments with rescued chimpanzees, a playful orangutan, and observed a submerged hippopotamus and crocodiles apart from patting an Okapi. He also walked among grazing zebras, fed a giraffe and a rhino calf that was orphaned as her mother died at the facility. He also saw a large python, a unique two-headed snake and a two-headed turtle.

The PM also visited the hydrotherapy pool which supports the recovery of elephants suffering from arthritis and foot problems and improves their mobility.

He also learned about the centre’s Caracal breeding programme, crucial for the preservation of this increasingly rare species.PM Modi explored various facilities at the centre. He closely interacted with various species of animals which have been rehabilitated there. Vantara hospital houses multiple departments including wildlife anesthesia, cardiology, nephrology, endoscopy and dentistry among others.

He also visited the elephant hospital, the world’s largest, and witnessed the release of rescued parrots. PM Modi also interacted with the dedicated doctors, staff, and workers managing Vantara.
