Did you hear me say that?: Washington Sundar gets angry at journalist for misquoting him during IPL 2025

Gujarat Titans (GT) are flying high under Shubman Gill’s captaincy in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. With three of their four wins, they are now in the second spot on the points table.

Against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), they inducted Washington Sundar in their playing XI and the all-rounder delivered an impactful batting performance (49 off 29) against his old side SRH. It was Sundar’s debut game for Gujarat. Sundar, who is playing IPL for the last nine years, hasn’t been a part of any IPL side’s playing XI regularly. In his nine-year league career, he has served Rising Pune Supergiant, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and SRH. In the IPL 2025 auction, GT spent INR 3.20 crore to reserve his services for the season.

Gujarat will hostRajasthan Royals(RR) at the Narendra Modi Stadium on April 10 and ahead of the crucial game, Sundar attended a pre-match press conference. During the interaction, a journalist asked Sundar about his limited game time in the league. The reporter referred to a remark from a commentator by telling the fact that he played only two IPL matches and 14 international games. ‘You had to wait for the fourth game to get a chance, and someone mentioned on air that you played two (IPL) games and 14 international games last season,’ said the reporter.

However, Sundar lost his cool and asked the reporter back, ‘What is the question? The reporter emphasised that the 25-year-old made the remark. ‘I said that? When did I say that? Did you hear me say that?’ Noting Sundar getting rankled, the reporter retracted and clarified that the comment came from a commentator, not Sundar.

GT to take on RR in Ahmedabad in IPL 2025

GT’s next challenge is against RR, who have bounced back after losing their initial two games in the tournament. Royals bagged a 50-run win against in-form Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Mohali and gave a message to other sides that the Pink Army can’t be taken lightly and can perturb any team in the competition.

The Titans, on the other hand, have looked disciplined thus far. After losing their first game against Punjab, they won their next three games convincingly. They crushed SRH in Hyderabad by seven wickets and added two more points to their profile.
