Karnataka Man Loses Gold Chain Worth Rs 4 Lakh During Kumbh Mela Dip, Video Shows Theft In Action
Over 65 crore people took the holy dip in the Maha Kumbh, a divine occurrence that occurred after 144 years. People travelled from across the world and spent much over their capacity to reach the Triveni Sangam. However, apart from the expenses of travel and accommodation, the single dip cost Sudarshan from Karnataka an additional Rs 4 lakh.
Sudarshan and his family spent Rs 50,000 on their journey of nearly 1,750 km to the Maha Kumbh. The family was joyfully taking a dip and recording a video. But as soon as Sudarshan submerged himself in the water, he realised he had lost a gold chain worth Rs 4 lakh.As the family was capturing the moment on video, they soon found out how it was stolen.
No Police Action
Sudarshan used to wear a gold chain weighing more than four tolas. He was deeply attached to it, and despite his friends advising him to leave it at home, he refused, thinking it wouldn’t be fun attending the fair without his prized possession.
After his dip, he realised the chain was missing and recalled feeling a push from a group of men and women. Upon reviewing their camera footage multiple times, the family noticed a group of individuals where a woman blocked the mobile phone camera lens with her bag while her accomplice executed the theft. The incident occurred on February 19, but according to Sudarshan, the police did not even register a report.
Frustrated over his loss, Sudarshan showed the video to a Local 18 correspondent. However, he remained disappointed that the police, preoccupied with managing the crowd, did not take his complaint seriously.
With the Maha Kumbh concluding on Mahashivratri, he has lost all hope of recovering his chain.
