Massive Drug Bust: Over 6,000 kg Meth Worth ₹36,000 Crore Destroyed in Andaman After 9-Month Operation

One of India’s largest drug-destruction drives carried out under strict legal supervision after a major sea interception near the islands.

Andaman: In a massive anti-narcotics operation, the Andaman and Nicobar Police destroyed more than 6,000 kilograms of methamphetamine, valued at around ₹36,000 crore, during a phased operation that lasted nearly nine months. Officials confirmed the development on Saturday.

Massive Drug Bust:According to authorities, the destruction process began on June 26, 2025, and was completed on March 12, 2026. The operation is believed to be one of the largest drug-destruction drives ever conducted in India.

The banned substance had earlier been seized on November 23, 2024, during a major anti-narcotics operation by the Indian Coast Guard. During the operation, a vessel carrying six Myanmar crew members was intercepted in Indian territorial waters near the Andaman Islands.

Massive Drug Bust:Officials said the ship was found carrying over 6,000 kilograms of crystalline methamphetamine, packed in around 1,500 packets. The estimated value of the seized drugs in the international market was nearly ₹36,000 crore.

Methamphetamine, commonly known as “meth” or the “crazy drug,” is a highly addictive narcotic and is strictly banned in India. Following the seizure, the investigation was handed over to the Andaman and Nicobar Police and carried out under the supervision of Director General of Police Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal.

On November 26, 2024, an FIR was registered under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, the Foreigners Act, 1946, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

A senior police official stated that despite the enormous quantity of drugs involved, the entire destruction process was executed meticulously under the supervision of the DGP, with strict adherence to legal procedures, careful planning, and close coordination among agencies.

Massive Drug Bust:The destruction of the seized narcotics was carried out between June 25, 2025, and March 12, 2026, at the incineration facility of INHS Dhanvantari in Minnie Bay.

The process was supervised by a high-level drug disposal committee, chaired by DIGP (PR) Dr. A. Koan. Other members of the committee included DIGP (CID) Jitendra Kumar Meena and SP (Commandant HG) Ravikant Kumar.
