Ration Distribution Department Seizes Gas Cylinder Stock, Cracks Down on Black Marketing in Mumbai
Authorities raid illegal storage in Worli, confiscate domestic and commercial cylinders amid rising black market activity.

Mumbai: The Ration Distribution Department has intensified efforts to curb the black marketing of domestic and commercial gas cylinders. Acting on a tip-off, officials conducted a raid in the Worli area, uncovering a large stock of illegally stored cylinders being sold at inflated prices.
The illegal storage was reported at ‘Suraj Vallabhadas Chawl’ on Ganpatrao Kadam Road near Worli Naka. A joint team of the Ration Distribution Department and local police immediately raided the site and seized the stock.
Seized Cylinders
Authorities confiscated:
-
Six filled HP cylinders (5 kg each)
-
58 empty cylinders
-
Additional filled cylinders from other gas companies
Officials confirmed that these cylinders were stored illegally for refilling and sale in the black market, posing a serious safety hazard in a residential area. The seized cylinders have been handed over to the Worli Police Station.
Administration’s Warning
The local administration warned that storing and selling cylinders illegally in residential areas is extremely dangerous and could endanger lives. Authorities stressed that strict action will be taken against anyone involved in black marketing. Department teams remain on 24-hour alert to prevent such incidents.
Context and Supply Situation
The recent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have impacted crude oil and petroleum supplies, affecting the availability of both domestic and commercial gas cylinders. Despite sufficient reserves, black marketing has been reported across the country, with citizens lining up at various locations to purchase cylinders.
The Ration Distribution Department reiterated that efforts will continue to ensure fair distribution and prevent illegal sales, safeguarding both public safety and access to essential fuel supplies.
