Sanjiv Goenka’s Brother Exposes IPL’s Weaknesses, Warns BCCI Over Tournament’s Falling Standards

Harsh Goenka Raises Serious Concerns Over IPL 2026
IPL 2026: Amid the ongoing IPL 2026 season, noted industrialist Harsh Goenka has raised serious concerns about the future of the league and its declining quality. Harsh Goenka, brother of Sanjiv Goenka, shared strong views on social media regarding the falling popularity of the IPL, presenting statistics and suggestions that have now become a major talking point in the cricket world.
According to Goenka, IPL television viewership has witnessed a sharp decline of nearly 26 percent, something he believes the BCCI should not ignore. He openly stated that the IPL is gradually turning into a batting exhibition rather than a balanced cricket tournament, leading to a loss of excitement in the game.
“Every Match Looks the Same Now”
Harsh Goenka emphasized four major areas where improvements are urgently needed. He argued that pitches should be prepared in a way that also offers support to bowlers. Expressing frustration over high-scoring games becoming routine, he said chasing scores above 225 every night has started feeling repetitive and boring.
According to him, cricket becomes truly exciting only when there is uncertainty, balance, and a genuine contest between bat and ball.
Impact Player Rule Under Fire
Goenka also questioned the Impact Player rule, suggesting that it has disturbed the natural balance of the game. In his view, cricket is not just about endless boundaries and sixes, but about the intense battle between bowlers and batters that creates real drama on the field.
He believes excessive batting dominance is reducing the competitive nature of the tournament.
Exposes Poor Stadium Experience
Apart from on-field issues, Goenka also highlighted the poor facilities being provided to fans inside stadiums. He said franchises must make stronger efforts to build better engagement with supporters.
He sharply criticized the stadium experience and urged the BCCI to focus on cleaner toilets, better seating arrangements, quality food, and smoother access routes to stadiums.
According to Goenka, fans will gradually lose emotional attachment with the league if they continue to face poor treatment and inadequate basic facilities during matches.
Call for Equal Importance to Bowlers
Harsh Goenka concluded by saying that cricket is at its best when bowlers have an equally important role alongside batters. He warned that constant high-scoring matches are slowly damaging the league’s popularity because the sense of real competition is fading away.
Following his remarks, it will now be interesting to see whether the BCCI takes any concrete steps in upcoming seasons to restore balance in the game and improve the overall fan experience.
