Centre Grants Z Security to Raghav Chadha After Punjab Withdrawal; Political Row Intensifies

Raghav Chadha, Rajya Sabha MP from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has been granted Z-category security by the central government after his security cover was withdrawn by the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

According to sources, the decision was taken by the Ministry of Home Affairs based on a threat perception report by the Intelligence Bureau. Under this arrangement, Chadha will receive Z-category security in Delhi and Punjab, while Y+ security will be provided in other parts of the country.

Political Developments Within AAP

The development comes amid internal tensions within AAP. Chadha was recently removed from the post of deputy leader of the party in the Rajya Sabha, and he was also restricted from speaking in the House. The party assigned the responsibility to Ashok Mittal.

Meanwhile, AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj questioned the Centre’s decision on social media, asking why the government was extending such high-level security to Chadha.

However, sources close to Chadha have indicated that while discussions are underway, central security deployment may take some time. Until then, he may be provided protection by the Delhi Police.

Rift and Response

Reports suggest that relations between Chadha and the party leadership have been strained for some time. After being removed from key responsibilities, Chadha adopted a defiant stance and responded to allegations through a series of videos.

Reacting to being barred from speaking in Parliament, he said he could be silenced but not defeated.

What Does Z Security Mean?

Z-category security is among the highest levels of protection provided in India. It typically includes around 22 security personnel, including 4–6 commandos from the National Security Guard (NSG), along with personnel from forces like ITBP, CRPF, and local police.

This multi-layered security cover is granted based on threat assessment and is reserved for individuals facing significant security risks.
