Automobile: Meet first sedan to cross 30 lakh production mark. Not Honda City, Hyundai Verna

The sedan segment in India has some big names like theHonda Amaze, Honda City, Hyundai Aura, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia.However, the most popular and largest-selling sedan in the country is the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, which has now crossed the production milestone of 30 lakh units.

The Dzire is currently in its fourth generation, which was launched in November 2024. The first generation came in 2008, the second generation in 2012 and the third generation in 2017.The production milestone of 30 lakh unitshas been surpassed by the Dzire in around 16 years and 11 months. It touched the cumulative production of 10 lakh units in April 2015 and 20 lakh units in June 2019.

Other Maruti models to have crossed the 30 lakh units cumulative production milestone are the Alto, WagonR and Swift.The Dzire is not only among the popular Maruti cars in the domestic market, it has received much appreciation in international markets as well.Automobile

 Since the start of its exports in October 2008, around 2.6 lakh units of the sedan have been shipped to 48 countries, with key regions being Latin and Central America, Africa, Southeast Asia and the Middle East. In FY24, the Dzire was the second-highest exported model by Maruti.In India’s compact sedan segment,the Dzire has a share of almost 61%. Overall (compact sedan segment + mid-size sedan segment), the share is almost 50%. In FY24, the Dzire clocked sales of 1.64 lakh units.Automobile

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire price starts at Rs 6.79 lakh and goes up to Rs 10.14 lakh (ex-showroom). The new model comes with features like LED lights, SmartPlay Pro+ infotainment system, 360-degree camera, electric sunroof, six airbags, electronic stability control and hill hold assist. It is also the only Maruti car to have scored a five-star safety rating at Global NCAP.

The fourth-generation Dzire employs Suzuki’s new Z12E 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine, which develops 81.58PS of maximum power and 111.7Nm of peak torque. The transmission options include 5-speed MT and 5-speed AMT.
