The Maha Kumbh Mela is set to take place in Prayagraj from January 13 to February 26, 2025. Drawing millions of devotees from across the globe, this grand religious gathering will kick off on January 13 with an awe-inspiring drone show.

Over 2,000 illuminated drones will light up the skies at Sangam Nose, recreating iconic mythological scenes like the Samudra Manthan and the emergence of the Amrit Kalash. A similar spectacle will close the event on February 26.

WHAT IS MAHA KUMBH?

Kumbh Melas are held every three years, with the Maha Kumbh following a 12-year cycle, rotating among Haridwar, Ujjain, Nashik, and Prayagraj.

Prayagraj hosts the grand Maha Kumbh, while Haridwar and Prayagraj alternate for the six-year Ardh Kumbh.The event’s dates are determined by the movements of the moon, sun, and Jupiter as per the Hindu calendar.

Given the scale of the event, planning is crucial. Secure your accommodations in advance, start your travels early, and ensure you pack all necessary items for a comfortable visit.

KEY BATHING DATES

There are six auspicious bathing days, including three royal baths (Shahi Snan) and three additional holy days:

  • January 13, 2025: Paush Purnima
  • January 14, 2025: Makar Sankranti (First Shahi Snan)
  • January 29, 2025: Mauni Amavasya (Second Shahi Snan)
  • February 3, 2025: Basant Panchami (Third Shahi Snan)
  • February 12, 2025: Maghi Purnima
  • February 26, 2025: Maha Shivratri (Final Snan)

PACK FOR THE COLD

Temperatures around the Sangam can drop significantly. Be sure to bring warm clothing like thermals, socks, scarves, gloves, hats, and a heavy coat.

Since weather can change unexpectedly, carrying an umbrella is also recommended.

TRAIN TRAVEL

To manage the influx of pilgrims, Indian Railways has rolled out over 13,000 trains, including 10,000 regular services, 3,000 special trains, and 560 ring rail trains connecting Prayagraj with nearby cities like Ayodhya, Varanasi, Jaunpur, and Chitrakoot.

SECURITY AND FACILITIES

Enhanced security measures include 2,300 CCTV cameras across the event site for crowd management, cleanliness, and incident monitoring.

Authorities have also planned 1.45 lakh temporary restrooms and 99 parking spaces spread over 1,850 hectares.

CARRY IDENTIFICATION

Always keep a valid ID like an Aadhaar card, voter ID, or PAN card with you. For added safety, carry a card with a recent photo and emergency contact details of your family members.
