Opposition Hurt Women’s Dignity, Set the Highest Example of Opportunism: Mohan Yadav

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, along with BJP state president Hemant Khandelwal and national vice president Rekha Verma, held a press conference regarding the rejection of the Women’s Reservation Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha and strongly targeted the opposition. Speaking to the media at the BJP state headquarters in Bhopal, CM Mohan Yadav accused the Congress of having an anti-women mindset. He also announced a 10-day statewide grassroots protest against the Congress.
Reacting to the rejection of the bill, Mohan Yadav said, “What happened in our democracy has taken a very serious turn. We have closely witnessed this incident, its causes, and those responsible for turning it into a tragedy. We have carefully observed the intentions of those involved. We had heard about the disrobing of Draupadi 5,000 years ago, but what happened to women and how their dignity was hurt was something we witnessed with our own eyes in Parliament.”
He further added, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi had written an open letter to all parties seeking support for this bill. The same opposition that supported it in 2023 backed out at the last moment. Back then, they supported it because the Lok Sabha elections were approaching. This time, by withdrawing support, they have set the biggest example of opportunism.”
Mohan Yadav also criticized the DMK and Priyanka Gandhi. He alleged that the DMK spread misinformation solely to win elections and is following divisive politics. Referring to the slogan ‘I am a woman, I can fight,’ he said that opposing a bill meant to empower women was a grave wrongdoing.
Hemant Khandelwal stated, “What happened in the Lok Sabha was not just a parliamentary process but an important issue concerning half of the population. However, the opposition and Congress did not allow it to pass.”
Rekha Verma said that although the Women’s Reservation Bill (Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam) was discussed in the Lok Sabha, the opposition prevented its passage. She added, “For 70 years, women in this country have been fighting for their rights, including 33% reservation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah are committed to increasing women’s participation. Women make up half of the country’s population, and they deserve equal rights. In 2023, the opposition supported the bill only because elections were near. Opposition parties talk about women’s empowerment on public platforms, but step back when it comes to giving them actual political representation.”
