Premier League: Tottenham Hotspur’s Losing Streak Continues After 3–1 Defeat to Crystal Palace
London: Tottenham Hotspur F.C. slipped deeper into trouble in the Premier League after suffering a 3–1 home defeat to Crystal Palace F.C. on Friday. The result extended Spurs’ winless run in the league to 11 matches.
According to the Premier League report, the turning point of the match came in the first half when Micky van de Ven was shown a red card, forcing Tottenham to play with ten men and allowing Crystal Palace to take control of the game.
Tottenham had initially raised hopes among home fans when Archie Gray produced excellent footwork to set up Dominic Solanke, whose finish briefly lifted the crowd. Earlier, Palace believed they had taken the lead through Ismaïla Sarr, but the goal was ruled out after a lengthy offside check.
The momentum shifted midway through the half when Sarr broke through Tottenham’s defensive line and was pulled back by Van de Ven while racing toward goal. The referee awarded a penalty and sent off the Dutch defender. Sarr calmly converted the spot-kick to equalize and give Palace the advantage.
Crystal Palace soon capitalized on Tottenham’s defensive errors. Evan Guessand won the ball after a loose pass, and the visitors quickly moved it through midfield. Adam Wharton then delivered a precise pass to Jørgen Strand Larsen, who put the visitors ahead.
Before halftime, Palace struck again when Wharton once more found space to control the play, setting up Sarr for his second goal of the night, further deepening the frustration among the home supporters.
It proved to be a difficult evening for Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario. He allowed Strand Larsen’s shot to slip through his legs, and Sarr quickly converted the rebound to score Palace’s third goal.
After the break, Spurs showed greater determination, but playing with ten men and dealing with injuries meant they were unable to mount a serious comeback. The defeat has increased pressure on manager Igor Tudor, who has been in charge for only a few weeks.
The loss also marked Tottenham’s fifth consecutive league defeat, while their defensive struggles continued. The team has now conceded two or more goals in nine straight league matches, the worst such run in the club’s history.
With difficult fixtures ahead, including a challenging trip to Liverpool F.C., Tottenham currently sit just one point above the relegation zone, facing a tough battle to remain in the top flight.
