RPF Intensifies Crackdown, Seizes Contraband Worth Over ₹1.93 Crore

Guwahati: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) under the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has demonstrated heightened vigilance and operational efficiency through a series of successful operations across its jurisdiction, resulting in the seizure of contraband worth over ₹1.93 crore.

According to NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, coordinated drives conducted on March 24 covered multiple railway stations and trains, including GuwahatiKamakhya Railway Station, Hojai, New Bongaigaon (all in Assam), Agartala, Aluabari and New Jalpaiguri Railway Station, as well as Samsi in Bihar.

In a significant humanitarian effort, RPF teams rescued a minor boy from a train at Guwahati Railway Station. The child was safely handed over to the Child Welfare Committee through Railway Childline for proper care, protection, and rehabilitation.

In another major operation, a team from the Crime Intelligence Branch (CIB) led by RPF apprehended a tout at Samsi Railway Station. Fourteen illegal e-tickets worth over ₹61,700 were recovered from the आरोपी, dealing a blow to unlawful ticketing activities.

The RPF teams also seized various prohibited items, including ganja and liquor, and arrested individuals involved in illegal arms possession and drugging cases—highlighting their proactive approach to maintaining law and order.

During March (up to March 26), intensive enforcement drives across stations and trains led to substantial recoveries. A total of 268.82 kg of dry ganja was seized, along with cigarettes, cough syrup, heroin, 1,200 kg of poppy seeds, and liquor. The total estimated value of these narcotics exceeded ₹1.91 crore.

Overall, 37 individuals were detained or arrested during these operations. Additionally, ₹7.60 lakh in cash was recovered in one case. In cases related to arms and ammunition, RPF seized a pistol, two magazines, and two live cartridges, reinforcing its commitment to curbing illegal weapons in railway premises.

In theft-related cases, eight offenders were apprehended, leading to the recovery of seven mobile phones and one trolley bag worth ₹86,000. Crackdowns on illegal ticketing also resulted in the arrest of two touts with 16 tickets valued at ₹63,668.

These coordinated efforts have pushed the total value of recoveries and seizures beyond ₹1.93 crore. The continued operations reflect RPF’s commitment to ensuring passenger safety, preventing unlawful activities, and maintaining a secure and passenger-friendly railway environment.
