Sai Sudharsan Praises Shubman Gill’s Leadership Ahead of IPL 2026
Ahmedabad: India and Gujarat Titans (GT) batter Sai Sudharsan has heaped praise on captain Shubman Gill, highlighting his calm approach and strong leadership qualities.
Speaking to ANI, Sudharsan described Gill as a dependable and composed leader who understands his players’ needs and creates a relaxed, pressure-free environment within the team. According to him, this quality allows players to feel valued and perform at their best.
“Shubman Gill is a very reliable person, and he is very calm. He understands his players and what they need. He makes players feel comfortable in the environment. That is one of the biggest qualities of a captain—players should feel they belong and stay stress-free. I think he does that really well, and he is one of the best captains I have played under,” Sudharsan said.
The Gujarat Titans made a dream debut in the Indian Premier League in 2022, winning the title in their very first season. They reached the final again in 2023 but lost to Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Now, under Gill’s leadership, the team will be aiming to clinch their second title in the 2026 season.
Gill, who has also been leading India in Tests and ODIs since 2024, will be keen to turn things around after GT missed the playoffs in 2024 and were knocked out in the Eliminator in IPL 2025.
Sudharsan also called the IPL one of the best platforms for Indian cricketers, emphasizing that it provides exposure to high-quality competition. He believes this experience helps players identify weaknesses and improve, which has been a key factor in India’s rise as a strong T20 team.
“The IPL is one of the best platforms any cricketer can get. That’s why India is becoming a strong T20 side. Players get so much exposure to high-quality cricket that we understand what we need to improve and become better,” he added.
The IPL 2026 season is set to begin on March 28, with defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) taking on Sunrisers Hyderabad. Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans will start their campaign on March 31 in Mullanpur against Punjab Kings (PBKS), as they look to make a strong statement this season.
