YouTube Restored After Nearly an Hour of Outage, Company Cites Recommendation System Glitch
Users in India and the US Faced Streaming Issues and Automatic Logouts

YouTube services have been restored after remaining down for nearly an hour on Wednesday morning. Video streaming is now functioning normally across platforms. TeamYouTube confirmed that the homepage is back online and services are gradually stabilizing.
In a post on X, the official TeamYouTube account stated:
“Update: Due to an issue with our recommendations system, videos were not appearing across YouTube platforms (including Homepage, YouTube App, YouTube Music, and YouTube Kids). The homepage is now visible again, but we are still working on a full fix.”
Outage Reported at 6:42 AM
The disruption began around 6:42 AM, when users were suddenly unable to stream videos. Many reported that their accounts were automatically logged out.
According to Downdetector, approximately 283,490 users in the United States reported issues accessing YouTube videos. Among them:

56% faced problems on the YouTube app

21% encountered issues on the website

11% reported streaming and logout-related glitches
India Also Hit by Streaming Issues
Indian users also experienced similar problems. Downdetector data showed that at 6:47 AM, around 14,186 users reported issues, while a peak of nearly 18,000 complaints was recorded at 6:42 AM.
In India:

Many users reported seeing a “Something went wrong” error message while opening the app. Additionally, accounts were automatically logged out not only from the mobile app and website but also from smart TV apps, where users were prompted to log in again.
Official Response
The exact cause of the outage was not immediately clear, but YouTube acknowledged the issue. TeamYouTube wrote on X:
“If you’re having trouble accessing YouTube right now, you’re not alone — our teams are investigating and will keep you updated.”
Later, YouTube Help on Google Support posted at 7:24 AM:
“We’re aware that some of you are experiencing issues accessing YouTube. Our team is actively working on it, and we’ll share updates as soon as they become available.”
With services now largely restored, users across India and other countries have regained access to uninterrupted video streaming.
