Pakistan finish Women’s World Cup winless after fifth Colombo washout
Pakistan ended their Women’s World Cup campaign on a disappointing note after their final league game against Sri Lanka on Friday, October 24, at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo was washed out due to rain.
The team failed to win a single match, becoming the only side in the tournament to finish winless.
They currently sit seventh in the points table with three points and a net run rate of -0.58, earning all their points from abandoned matches against Sri Lanka, Australia, and England. If Bangladesh defeats India in their final match on October 26 in Navi Mumbai, Pakistan will finish at the bottom of the table.
Pakistan’s final Women’s World Cup match against Sri Lanka was delayed by rain before officials eventually reduced it to a 34-over contest. After Sri Lanka opted to bat first, Omaima Sohail and Muneeba Ali gave Pakistan a steady start.
With the match being inconsequential, Sri Lanka made two changes, bringing in Dewmi Vihanga for Udeshika Prabodhani, while Pakistan included Syeda Aroob Shah and Eyman Fatima in place of Sidra Nawaz and Fatima Sana.
Omaima struck a boundary off Sugandika Kumari through point and covers, but with Pakistan at 18 for no loss in 4.2 overs, the rain returned. Although play briefly resumed, another heavy downpour forced the umpires to call off the match at 8:06 PM local time.
Sri Lanka finished their campaign with five points and a net run rate of -1.035, managing one win in seven matches.
