Helicopter Makes Emergency Sea Landing in Andaman; All 7 Onboard Safe | VIDEO

Port Blair: A major aviation mishap was averted in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Tuesday morning when a helicopter operated by Pawan Hans was forced to make an emergency landing in the sea shortly after takeoff. The incident occurred after the aircraft departed from Sri Vijaya Puram (Port Blair), located in the northern part of Middle Andaman Island.

There were seven people onboard — two crew members and five passengers — and fortunately, all were rescued safely with no reports of injuries.

According to a company spokesperson, the incident took place around 9:30 am near Mayabunder and was described as a “short landing.” Officials said a technical issue arose just before landing, forcing the helicopter to descend into the sea approximately 300 meters short of the runway.

Authorities confirmed that the aircraft was brought down safely, and a rescue operation was launched immediately. All passengers and crew members were swiftly evacuated without harm.

Jharkhand Air Crash a Day Earlier

The incident comes just a day after a tragic air crash in Jharkhand claimed seven lives. On Monday evening, an air ambulance operated by Redbird Airways Private Limited crashed in a forested area of the Simaria region in Chatra district. The aircraft was en route from Ranchi to Delhi when the accident occurred.

Among those killed were Captain Vivek Vikas Bhagat, Captain Swarajdeep Singh, Dr. Vikas Kumar Gupta, Sachin Kumar Mishra, Sanjay Kumar, Archana Devi, and Dhuru Kumar.

According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the aircraft took off from Ranchi at 7:11 pm and established contact with Kolkata at 7:34 pm. However, both communication and radar signals were lost approximately 100 nautical miles southeast of Varanasi.

Investigations into both incidents are currently underway, and aviation safety standards are being reviewed.
