Dwarka AATS Action: Two Lagarapuriya Gang Members Arrested After Shyam Vihar Firing Case
Delhi: The Delhi Police’s Dwarka Anti-Auto Theft Squad (AATS) carried out a swift operation and arrested two suspected members of the Lagarapuriya gang who were wanted in connection with a shooting incident following a brief exchange of fire in the Shyam Vihar area, officials said on Saturday. During the encounter, one of the accused sustained a bullet injury in his leg.
According to the police, the operation was based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of the suspects, who were wanted in a recent firing incident in Shyam Vihar Phase 2 under Chhawla Police Station jurisdiction. The case was registered as FIR No. 129/26 dated April 18, 2026, under relevant sections of the BNS and the Arms Act.
Police said that in the earlier incident, two armed assailants had arrived on a motorcycle, and one of them allegedly attempted to shoot the complainant from close range, but the weapon failed to fire. Following the seriousness of the crime, a search operation was launched.
Acting on precise human intelligence, a police team led by Inspector Manish Yadav intercepted the suspects near the Urban Extension Road (UER) at around 5:35 AM on Sunday. The accused were identified as Rocky (22) and Sumit alias Koki (24).
When the police team challenged them to surrender, Rocky allegedly opened fire, shooting three rounds at the officers. The bullets struck the bulletproof jacket worn by Head Constable Manish, narrowly avoiding serious injury. In response, the police team—including SI Jitendra, SI Pawan Kumar, and ASI Dev Kumar—retaliated with controlled self-defense firing.
Rocky sustained an injury below his left knee and was overpowered after a brief scuffle. Sumit was also apprehended with a loaded weapon. Police recovered a 7.65 mm pistol along with two live cartridges and spent shells from Rocky, while a country-made firearm and one live cartridge were seized from Sumit. The motorcycle used in the crime was also confiscated.
