India-Bangladesh Relations: A Threat to India, but do you know what 30% of the youth in Bangladesh are doing? The truth will leave you shocked.

Bangladesh is grappling with a surge in drug abuse, facilitated by a lack of stringent law enforcement. Over the past four years, the country has seen at least 4 million new drug users.

Currently, the number of drug users in Bangladesh exceeds 10 million. There is also a belief that e-cigarettes are contributing to the rise in drug addiction. A majority of these drug users are young people, with 30% of the nation’s youth reportedly involved in some form of drug abuse.

Drug addiction has caused turmoil in many Bangladeshi families. In some cases, parents have been compelled to hand over their addicted children to the police due to their uncontrollable behavior.

In one extreme case on May 6, 2023, in Joydebpur, Gazipur, a father killed his drug-addicted son. The son often vandalized the house, assaulted his parents, and demanded money for drugs. The father, unable to bear the abuse, took the drastic step in what he described as a measure to protect his family.

Drugs have become easily accessible in schools, colleges, and universities, drawing even new students into the trap. There is growing demand for the government to establish a Drug Reform Commission to address this crisis.Experts warn that if the 30% youth addicted to drugs cannot be saved, the country faces a dire future.BGT 2024-25: Indians unhappy with “used” practice pitches at MCG, curator says protocol followed
