MS University Introduces New Course on RSS and PM Modi, Sparks Academic Interest

The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (MSU) in Vadodara has announced a significant update to its academic curriculum by introducing a new course focused on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The course will cover the organization’s history, ideology, and working structure.

Under this program, students will study the foundation, evolution, and socio-cultural contributions of the RSS. Topics such as cultural nationalism, environmental awareness, and the organization’s role during India’s freedom movement will also be discussed in detail.

Focus on PM Modi’s Leadership

The course will also include lessons on the leadership and administrative approach of India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A dedicated module titled “Modi Tattva” will explore his personality traits, leadership qualities, and governance style in an accessible manner.

Additionally, from a sociological perspective, students will analyze the impact of initiatives like Make in India on society, including how such campaigns have influenced public thinking and lifestyles.

Four New Courses Approved

The university’s Board of Studies has approved a total of four new courses. The curriculum will also include the ideas and contributions of prominent figures such as Vinayak Damodar SavarkarSri Aurobindo, and B R Ambedkar.

In addition, the governance and social reforms of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Sayajirao Gaekwad III will be studied in depth. Another subject in the curriculum will focus on nationalism, discussing the concept of nation and state, along with perspectives of Indian sociologists on nationalism.

University’s Perspective

Dr. Virendra Singh, Head of the Sociology Department, stated that the university believes these subjects will help students better understand the current social and political environment. He added that recent research projects by NITI Aayog have shown increasing student engagement with government initiatives, and formally including such topics in the curriculum is a natural progression.
