Mumbai Customs Cracks Down on Smugglers, Gold and Gadgets Worth ₹1.8 Crore Seized

Officials from the Airport Commissionerate of Mumbai Customs Zone-III have carried out a major crackdown over the past two days, exposing multiple smuggling cases. During the operation, goods worth lakhs of rupees—including electronic items, cosmetics, cigarettes, and gold—were seized.
According to customs officials, the कार्रवाई was based on spot checks and profiling through the Advanced Passenger Information System (APIS). In two separate cases, passengers arriving from Dubai on Emirates flight EK-502 were found carrying electronic items, cosmetics, and cigarettes worth a total of ₹84.37 lakh.
Gold Worth ₹95 Lakh Recovered from Dubai Passenger
In one of the cases, officials conducted an intensive aircraft search (rummaging) and recovered eight packets wrapped in brown tape from the commodes of two rear lavatories of the aircraft. These packets contained smuggled goods hidden cleverly.
In another case, a passenger arriving from Dubai on SpiceJet flight OSG-5114 was found carrying 695 grams of 24-carat raw gold, valued at approximately ₹95.32 lakh. The passenger has been arrested in connection with the case.
One Arrested, Investigation Underway
The Customs Department has initiated further investigation in all cases and is probing deeper into the smuggling network. The accused passenger has been arrested under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. Authorities are now working to identify larger networks and possible accomplices involved in these smuggling operations.
