PM Modi Offers Prayers at Somnath Temple
Gujarat: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (January 11) offered special prayers at the Somnath Temple, located in the Prabhas Patan area of Gujarat.
The Somnath Temple, regarded as the first among the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, was first attacked in 1026 by invader Mahmud of Ghazni, who looted large amounts of wealth. In the years that followed, the temple was attacked and plundered multiple times by invaders.
After India gained Independence, the Somnath Temple was rebuilt in 1951 through the efforts of leaders including Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, marking a significant moment in the restoration of India’s cultural and spiritual heritage.
To commemorate 1,000 years since Mahmud of Ghazni’s attack and to celebrate the grand revival of the temple, a four-day Swabhiman Utsav (Somnath Swabhiman Bhav) began on Thursday. Prime Minister Modi took part in the special prayers on the final day of the festival.
On Sunday morning, the Prime Minister travelled to the Somnath Temple in an open vehicle, where large crowds gathered along the route to give him a warm and enthusiastic welcome.
