US Democrats Slam Trump’s Iran Strategy, Urge Immediate Ceasefire Talks

Washington, D.C.: Senior Democratic lawmakers from the House Foreign Affairs Committee have sharply criticized Donald Trump over his handling of the ongoing conflict with Iran, urging an immediate shift toward diplomacy and ceasefire negotiations.

In a joint statement ahead of the President’s national address, key Democratic figures including Gregory MeeksAdam Smith, and Jim Himes expressed deep concern over the escalating humanitarian, economic, and geopolitical consequences of the conflict.

The lawmakers stated that more than a month into what they described as a “war of choice,” the administration has failed to achieve any meaningful strategic outcomes. They argued that there has been no fundamental change in Iran’s actions, including its nuclear ambitions, ballistic missile development, or support for militant groups.

Highlighting the growing toll, the Democrats pointed to significant human and material losses, including the deaths of 13 American soldiers, hundreds of injuries, and billions of dollars spent on military resources. They also cited heavy civilian casualties in Iran, including reports of over 150 schoolgirls killed, underscoring the devastating humanitarian impact.

The statement further warned of broader global repercussions, noting disruptions in the supply of essential commodities such as fertilizers, helium, and oil, which have affected both the U.S. and global economies.

Lawmakers also criticized the administration’s handling of international alliances, claiming that strained relations with key partners have weakened support for U.S. actions. They argued that the lack of a clear strategic direction has left allies reluctant to back the ongoing military campaign.

Calling for a decisive change in approach, the Democrats urged the administration to outline a clear plan to end the conflict and address the instability it has created. They emphasized that diplomacy remains the only viable path forward.

“We urge the President to immediately pursue a ceasefire with Iran and work toward a diplomatic resolution,” the statement said, warning that failure to do so could drag the United States into a prolonged and unwinnable war with far-reaching consequences.
