Maha Kumbh Stampede: Plea In SC Against UP Govt, Congress MP Says ‘Will Raise Stampede Deaths In Parliament’
Maha Kumbh 2025: A plea has been filed in Supreme Court holding Uttar Pradesh government responsible after at least 30 people were killed and 60 injured in a pre-dawn stampede at the Sangam area during Maha Kumbh mela on Wednesday.Congress MP Pramod Tiwari said that they will raise crowd crush issue in Parliament as well.
“I have been raised in Prayagraj. No other government has done political tourism like this. VVIPs are visiting for hours, and traffic comes to a halt because of them. Compensation for the kin of the deceased should be Rs 1 crore, while injured should get Rs 20 lakh each and the state government should bear the cost of their treatment,” Tiwari said.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued a slew of guidelines to manage crowd at festival site as more rush is expected during the next ‘Amrit Snan’ on Basant Panchami on February 3.
According to sources, the entire Maha Kumbh area has been declared “no-vehicle zone”, and no cars or other vehicles will be allowed to enter the mela area from today (January 30) till February 4. The VVIP passes also remain cancelled till Tuesday. A ban has been imposed on the convoy of VVIPs and escort vehicles.
Five big changes have been enforced from today after yesterday’s stampede. These include Maha Kumbh route made into one-way, which means devotees coming from one route will be sent from the other route after bathing; entry of four wheelers coming from districts adjoining Prayagraj has been banned. Only ambulances, municipal corporation and fire vehicles will be allowed inside.
