ragedy on Srinagar–Leh Highway: 6 Killed, Several Injured in Avalanche

Srinagar: At least six people lost their lives and five others were injured after multiple avalanches struck the Srinagar–Leh National Highway on Friday. Nearly a dozen vehicles were buried under heavy snow during the incident.
Officials confirmed that the tragedy occurred around noon between Zero Point and Minimarg near Zoji La. The sudden snow slide trapped several cars, leaving many passengers injured and stranded.
Following the incident, Vinai Kumar Saxena stated that he is closely monitoring the situation. He has directed district authorities and senior police officials in Kargil to reach the site immediately and coordinate rescue operations.
Emergency response teams, including the Border Roads Organisation and disaster relief forces, have been placed on high alert. Efforts are underway to assist victims, clear the affected stretch of the highway, and restore connectivity.
Rescue operations are ongoing as authorities continue searching for survivors and working to reopen the crucial route.
