Reliance Retail joins hands with Department of Consumer Affairs to reaffirm commitment to consumer safety

Reliance Retail has reaffirmed its commitment to consumer safety by signing the Consumer Safety Pledge, an initiative led by the Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India.
This signing ceremony took place on National Consumer Day, 24 December 2024, in New Delhi. Key figures in attendance included Sh. Pralhad Joshi, Hon’ble Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution; Sh. B L Verma, Hon’ble Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution; and Smt. Nidhi Khare, Secretary of the Department of Consumer Affairs.
Sh. Ravi Gandhi, President and Chief Public Policy & Regulatory Officer of Reliance Retail, signed the pledge on behalf of the company, which includes platforms like JioMart, AJIO, Reliance Digital, and Netmeds. The initiative is designed to raise awareness about product safety regulations and responsibilities among sellers and consumers across India.
The Consumer Safety Pledge focuses on four key principles:
- Preventing the sale of unsafe and non-compliant products.
- Collaborating with statutory authorities to ensure adherence to safety regulations.
- Educating sellers about their responsibility to offer safe products.
- Empowering consumers with tools to report safety concerns.
Sh. Ravi Gandhi emphasized that consumer safety has always been a cornerstone of Reliance Retail’s operations, and by signing this pledge, the company reaffirms its commitment to a safe e-commerce marketplace for millions of consumers. Sh. B L Verma praised the initiative and the efforts of e-commerce companies working together to create a safer environment for consumers, highlighting the government’s proactive stance on consumer prosperity.
Reliance Retail also integrates advanced technologies, such as AI-enabled monitoring, to detect and remove unsafe products from its platforms.
