Sudan civil war: Military advances in Omdurman, secures key areas from RSF
Sudanese military forces said Wednesday they have captured key areas in Omdurman, the country’s second-largest city, from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) amid ongoing clashes in the region. The army announced the seizure of RSF-held territories in Mansoura, Murabaat, and Elfitihab, as well as a weapons and ammunition depot. Fighting has continued in the city for a second day, according to Sudanese state media and local reports. Omdurman sits across the Nile River from Khartoum, where heavy fighting has persisted since the conflict erupted in April 2023.Sudan civil war
International attention on Sudan intensified last month when the United States (US) declared that RSF forces had committed genocide, imposing sanctions on RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as “Hemedti.” Both sides in the conflict have faced allegations of war crimes and atrocities by human rights groups.
The ongoing violence has turned Sudan into the epicentre of the world’s largest internal displacement crisis. Despite the turmoil, some displaced residents have begun returning to areas retaken by government forces. In November, the Sudanese army regained control of Singah in Sennar province, offering a glimmer of hope for stability in certain regions.Sudan civil warIndian-American dhol band to perform at Donald Trump’s inaugural parade
