In the unrest-plagued region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, at least 12 security officers were slain.

Peshawar: The army reported on Wednesday that a suicide bomber had driven an explosives-laden car into a joint check station in the northwest Pakistani province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing six terrorists and twelve security personnel.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Army’s media wing, reported that late Tuesday night, terrorists tried to attack a joint check station in the Bannu district’s general area MaliKhel, but troops successfully stopped their effort to penetrate the post.

According to the ISPR, the suicide explosion caused a section of the perimeter wall to collapse and damaged the nearby infrastructure, killing “12 brave sons of soil,” including two Frontier Constabulary personnel and ten security forces soldiers.

It further stated that six of them were also slain in the subsequent firefight.
The wounded have been taken to a nearby hospital.
There was a curfew in place and a sanitation operation was underway.
Law enforcement and security personnel declared their commitment to eradicating the threat of terrorism.

Over the past year, there has been a notable increase in occurrences related to terrorism throughout the nation, but especially in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

According to a think tank Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), the third quarter of the ongoing year witnessed a 90 per cent surge in violence in Pakistan, local media had reported earlier.

The attack comes a day after the country’s civil and military leadership on Tuesday approved a “comprehensive military operation” against terrorist organisations in Balochistan in a move aimed at stemming the tide of militancy in the province that had seen several deadly attacks in recent months.

“The decision was taken by the Federal Apex Committee – a high-powered civil and military forum on counterterrorism. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired the meeting, which was attended by the federal ministers, chief ministers, Army Chief Gen Syed Asim Munir and senior government officials,” , newspaper The Express Tribune said.Meeting PM Modi, Barbados PM Calls Visit ‘Historic Moment’ For Caribbean Community
